Boston's Bobby Doerr is often called the best second baseman of all-time. Looking back over his Hall of Fame career it's not hard to see why as the 9-time All-Star was the rock of the Red Sox infield over the course of 3 decades. At the plate he held his own with teammates Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx and Dom DiMaggio. This bat dates from 1948 and 1949, two of his finest. In 1948 Doerr hit .285 set a fielding record by handling 414 consecutive chances with out an error. The next year he .309 as the Sox lost the pennant to New York on the week of the season. Doerr remained with the Sox after his playing days and he helped make Carl Yastrzemski a Hall of Fame hitter just like himself. The Hillerich & Bradsby D2 model bat is un-cracked and shows heavy use with a chip in the knob end. The barrel exhibits many ball marks and stitch impressions along with cleat imprints. The lower handle had been taped at one time to enhance the grip but has been removed. Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA (1B08116) and MEARS (314032) who have graded this bat an A7.
