Those familiar with our past offerings of Timmons' Mantle and Williams pieces will immediately recognize this as Kirk's most ambitious work to date. By jettisoning pen-and-ink for acrylic paint, by ramping up from premium paper to hardboard panel, and by filling all available space with an edge-to-edge design, this rising star of sports art has produced his first true masterpiece. A full seven portraits encompass the one-of-a-kind 18" x 24" creation, including: 2 from the "Luckiest Man" speech; 2 from the legendary lens of Charles Conlon; a NYT photo used for the cover of Jonathan Eig's 2005 bestselling biography; a popular image with bats in hand; and the iconic scene of the Iron Horse ending his consecutive-games streak as he watches his teammates from the dugout steps. The vibrant 1939 "Baseball Centennial" shoulder patch and pinstriped background put the crowning touch on this poignant, powerful tribute.
