Before there were "Louisville Sluggers" and even before there were "Hillerich & Bradsby" bats, there were these Louisville-made bats. Known as "Patent Models", these bats were produced by JF Hillerich & Son from about 1903. The "Patent" refers to an improvement to the hitting surface of the barrel which was applied for on October 31, 1902. This patent was quite significant because this improvement pushed JF Hillerich & Son to the forefront of baseball bat design and made them the leading supplier of bats to professional baseball for the next century. Most turn of the century bats that have survived are in deplorable show, but this bat is un-cracked and shows moderate use. A museum-quality example of an important leap forward in baseball bat manufacturing. Letter of Authenticity (1B06530) from PSA/DNA.
