In a career spanning 17 years, all spent with the Pirates, Pie Traynor set the standard for third baseman. During the years the markings on this bat dates to, Traynor hit a combined .326 and spearheaded two Pittsburgh pennant winners and he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1948. This Spalding model 200 Pie Traynor professional model bat shows heavy use with a handle crack. There is checking on the barrel from repeated ball contact and a piece is missing from the back barrel. The knob has been chipped and many ball and stitch marks cover the barrel. A moderate coat of pine tar is still in evidence on the handle. The center brand stamped on this model 200 bat allows us to date it to the 1926 to
1935 period. The bat has "side writing" which was applied when a bat was returned to the factory to have modifications or duplicates made. The player name that was once written on the bat is now illegible, but the date of "8/28/35" can still be seen. A great gamer from one of the greatest hitters in Pirates history. Letter of Authenticity (1B06587) from PSA/DNA.
