As sad as Boston fans were with Ted Williams' retirement, 1961 brought an able replacement - Carl Yastrzemski. Besides being almost as good a hitter as Williams, Yaz proved to be a much better outfielder, eventually earning 7 Golden Gloves. Like his predecessor, Yastrzemski had a long and productive career with Boston and ended up in the Hall of Fame. This bat dates from Yaz's first ones as big leaguer, when the pressure to perform was so intense any lesser talented ball player would have failed where as he succeeded. Although confirming to the style and specs of the bats Yaz ordered during the 1961-63 seasons, this flawless Hillerich & Bradsby W215 shows no evidence of game use and is un-cracked. Yaz's famed number "8" appears on the knob end in black marker. The Red Sox legend has signed the barrel in strong black marker between the H&B brand and his stamped signature. A pristine bat from the Hall of Famer's first summers. Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
