In the history of baseball, indeed of all sports, there has never been a more storied team than the 1927 Yankees. Their lineup was so feared they were called "Murderer's Row". From 1926 to 1928 the team won three pennants and two world championships. The heart and soul of those teams were the number 3 and 4 hitters: Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. This baseball signed by both superstars was signed during the 1926 or 1927 season. Over those two glorious summers Ruth batted .363 with 107 homers while Gehrig hit .343 with 63 homers. Ruth won the home run crown each year and Gehrig led the AL in RBI and won the MVP Award in 1927. The Official American League ball appears to be the 1926-1927 Ban Johnson version. The Babe has signed as usual on the sweet spot and Lou has signed on the panel directly below. The ball shows some surface wear, some of which affects the signatures, most notably on the "abe" in "Babe". A light coat of shellac has been applied which has given the ball a warm tone. Ruth's signature rates in the 5/10 range and Gehrig's is a 7-8/10. Great ball signed by the two heavy-hitters of Murderer's Row. Letter of Authenticity from JSA.
