Throughout the sixties, the exploits of the Rat Pack were well documented. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop performed together on stage, on television and in film, often showing up unannounced for impromptu shows. The group would eventually splinter due to in-fighting and substance abuse, but the names and personalities are forever linked together. In 2003, a silent auction was held in Steubenville, Ohio to honor the town’s favorite son, Dean Martin. Many of the items sold at auction were related to Martin’s fellow Rat Pack cohorts, including this RAT PACK ERA 1965 Frank Sinatra outfit. The outfit consists of a green-striped button-down shirt, with an eyelet collar and French cuffs. Interior of collar contains a label reading “Made for Frank Sinatra by (unknown) Shirtmakers”. Also included is a black Pancaldi tie with images of women on it, a silver tie pin in the shape of a safety pin, 2 oval silver cufflinks patterned with stars, marked “Sterling T2”, and the A&B sections of the Herald Star newspaper of Steubenville, dated Saturday, June 21,2003- which specifically mentions this EXACT ensemble as the headliner. Included in this newspaper is an article about the 2003 Dean Martin Festival silent auction where these items were obtained. Also included is a small picture, approximately 4”X7”, of Frank Sinatra with his personal valet. A tag accompanying this picture reads George Jacobs, Franks Valet 1953-1968, and serves as LOA.
