Winter Auction 2016 Closing January 30th
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 1/31/2016
Offered is a game ball used on August 9, 2012 during a game between the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards in Baltimore, MD. The game is significant as the major league debut of Manny Machado, who as the third overall pick in the 2010 draft is the highest Baltimore Oriole draft pick since the O’s drafted Ben McDonald first overall in 1989. To date Machado has lived up to the hype, with 2 All-Star selections and a Gold Glove Award in his first 4 seasons in the bigs. This particular ball was fouled out of play by Adam Jones on a 0-1 pitch from Will Smith in the bottom of the third. Machado, for his part, went 2-4 in his big league debut with a triple and a run scored in the game, an 8-2 Royals victory. Machado has signed the ball on the south panel below the “Oriole Park at Camden Yards” insignia, and has included the inscription “August 9, 2012 MLB Debut”. The ball shows heavy game use, and includes a COA from Steiner as well as MLB Authentication Hologram #FJ710854.
