From 1996-2007 Joe Torre managed the New York Yankees, and during his tenure the club never missed the post-season, winning 4 World Series titles in the process. To honor Torre for his success, the Yankees retired his #6 on August 23, 2014. This first base bag was used at Yankee Stadium during the New York Yankees game with the visiting Chicago White Sox on that day. Each side of the bag sports a small 1” X 6 ½” plaque. The front plaque reads “2014 * Our History. Your Tradition.” with the interlocking NY logo. Both side plaques read “Joe Torre * New York Yankees * 1996-2007 * August 23, 2014” bookended by the #6 retirement crest, and the plaque on the back of the bag simply reads New York Yankees next to the NY logo. On the underside of the base, written in blue marker in an unknown hand, is “1st Base 08/23/14 1st Inning”. Torre has signed the top of the base in black to the right of center. Bag shows significant dirt from game use, and is accompanied by a COA and LOA from Steiner.
