The 1969 Chicago Cubs are renowned as the team that collapsed in September and lost out on the NL East division title to the eventual World Series Champion New York Mets, but it was a season begun with such promise and hope. On April 8, the Cubs kicked off the season by beating the visiting Philadelphia Phillies 7-6. This 11X14 black & white photograph collects the signatures of the starting 9 from that opening day, as well as the other 2 Cubs who saw action in the game. Signed here are Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Ferguson Jenkins, Ron Santo and Billy Williams, along with teammates Don Kessinger, Glenn Beckert, Randy Hundley, Jim Hickman, Don Young, Willie Smith and Phil Regan.
