This Hillerich & Bradsby, Professional Model 125 bat was used by Pittsburgh Pirates rightfielder Paul “Big Poison” Waner during his Hall of Fame career. Waner, a 3X NL Batting Champion and NL MVP in 1927, collected over 3,000 hits over 20 MLB seasons, and served as the driving force for the Pirates teams of the late 20s and 30s. Dated to the late 30s based on the H&B labeling, the 34”, 32 oz. bat exhibits heavy game use, and shows cleat imprints, ball marks & stitch impressions and batting rack streaks. The barrel branding has faded somewhat, particularly around Waner’s name, and the back of the barrel features a crack measuring several inches, but the bat still displays beautifully. The bat is stamped with “P44” on both ends. Game used bats from this era are exceptionally difficult to come by, particularly one in this fine a condition belonging to a player of Waner’s stature. The bat comes with a COA from gameusedbats.com, and a PSA/DNA LOA (1B11121).
