A surname coupling more synonymous with triumph than any pair in the annals of sport, "Ruth" and "Gehrig" tamed American League and World Series opponents with unprecedented regularity during their legendary careers in the Bronx. While a falling-out brought an abrupt finish to what had been a strong friendship just before Ruth's departure, the two remain inseparable likenesses in American culture – first, as fence-clearing barnstorming comrades and, in the end, in the unforgettable embrace as Gehrig neared his demise. The offered sphere acts as an attractive canvas for the scriptings of both Hall of Fame pinstripers. The medium, an Official National League ball, features bold stampings and vibrant, alternating red and blue laces. Light toning affects portions of the ball, but not to the detriment of the coveted pennings. In its customary occupancy of the sweet spot, Ruth's black ink autograph projects with satisfying strength. Compliant with "second billing" on an adjacent panel, Gehrig has signed (likely using the same writing instrument, and adding the inscription, "To Thelma") to show the same quality as his more celebrated teammate. A superb duo, with either scripting displaying well as a single, if desired. This items comes with a LOA from JSA.
