Believe it or not, on rare occasions batters did actually get ahold of a Mariano Rivera fastball. When that happened The Sandman used his trademark black Nike mitt to field his position. This glove dates from Rivera's 2002 season in which he had a 2.73 ERA and 28 saves. The Nike PPRO GOLD 1125 fielder's glove is finished in soft black leather with a fleece wrist strap. "Mariano Rivera" is stitched in white script along the outside of the thumb and his number "42" is stitched in white on the wrist strap along with the Nike Swoosh. All lacing appears to be intact and original and overall the glove shows great game use. There is wear on the top of the index finger where The Sandman's finger rested when using the glove. There is light wear on the finger tips as would be expected from fielding grounders and various abrasions from storage and contact. Rivera has signed the back of the index finger in contrasting silver pen adding "2002 Game Used Glove" in his impeccable hand writing. A great glove from the greatest reliever of all-time.
