Two of the greatest players of those early years of baseball are included in this single lot of two vintage, original photographs, with early images of Honus Wagner and Tris Speaker.
Honus Wagner – c. 1920s Type II photograph issued by Underwood and Underwood. The 6.25 x 7.75 inch image shows Wagner walking up for his turn at bat, a large Stadium in the background, and is a later-issued photo re-struck from the original negative. Reverse features “Culver Pictures” stamps and Wagner’s name twice written by various editors. This comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1P06444), indicating this photo is a Type II and is in excellent overall condition with usual crinkles.
Tris Speaker – this 4 x 6 inch George Grantham Bain original News Service Photograph shows Speaker kneeling down and autographing a baseball bat. His name “TRIS SPEAKER” appears at the top and reverse has the “Culver Service” stamp with “TRIS SPEAKER autographing bat for Red Cross May 28, 1918”. Speaker was doing his part, helping raise money for the War effort. This comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1P06443), indicating this photo is a Type I. The photograph is in excellent overall condition with usual crinkles.
Two great early photos of the two best players at their respective positions.
