Gary Sheffield was wrapping up his long career in 2009 when he signed with the New York Mets. In his two decades in the Majors he played for eight clubs, won a World Series, a batting championship and made nine All-Star teams – but he still wasn’t finished. On April 17 Sheff connected for his 500th homer, only the 25th player in the history of the game to reach that mark.
