Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzog led the St. Louis Cardinals to three National League Pennants and one World Series title from 1980-1990. During the 1990 season, his Cardinals were sitting in last place at 33-47 when he decided to resign as manager.
Offered is what is likely the last Cardinals jersey worn by Herzog. This 1990 Rawlings pullover St. Louis Cardinals road gray jersey has the traditional “Cardinals” sewn on across the chest in cursive red and blue trim with the two perched cardinals on a gold bat. Herzog’s number “24” is sewn on in red and navy blue tackle twill on the left center chest. The back of the jersey has “HERZOG” sewn on in red and navy blue tackle twill on a matching gray nameplate, with his number “24” sewn on in red and navy blue. The left sleeve has a memorial “AAB JR” patch honoring the passing of August Busch Jr., who died in September of 1989. The collar and sleeve ends have a red, white and blue ribbed material and Herzog signed his name in black marker above the “Cardinal bat” on the front of the jersey and between his name and number on the back. This jersey comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (AB69845) and a full LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
