After blowing past Gehrig, Mathews, Williams and Foxx on the list of career home run leaders, A-Rod went into the July 6, 2008 game against Boston sitting at number 15. The man on the rung above him was one of the most beloved ballplayers to ever wear the pinstripes - Mickey Mantle.
To pass him would not only place him one step higher, but propel his name into the stratosphere of baseball legends. And that’s exactly what Rodriquez did in the 2nd inning launching a Tim Wakefield offering - this very ball - into the stands for number 536 to tie Mickey Mantle.
This Rawlings Official Major League baseball has the custom 1923-2008 Yankee Stadium logo printed on its side panel. The ball shows good game use with the turf marks and scuffing associated with a game used home run ball. A-Rod has signed the side panel in blue ball point just below the Yankee Stadium graphic. Beneath his signature he has marked the occasion by inscribing “Game Used 2008 Career HR #536 vs Boston 7/6/08 Tying Mickey Mantle”. This is a true piece of Yankee and baseball history and comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (LH 002149) and a full LOA from PSA/DNA for the signature.
