We've never seen this exact image before or a related one, and we've been unable to locate more information about its intriguing origins. The 6 ½ x 8 ½ inch photo carries an Underwood & Underwood stamping and orange-variety paper caption reading, "KING OF SWAT BECOMES ACTING SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE IN BOSTON FOR SHORT TIME. Looks strange, doesn't it? But it's actually the Bambino himself, eminent home-run hitter, as Acting Superintendent of Police in Boston's reserve force. Babe started his duties right by giving the cops a good layout and threatening to discipline some of their number." Curiously, there's an additional stamping under the caption for Bombay, India! Typical minor peripheral wear from newsroom usage. This photograph comes with a LOA for Type I from PSA/DNA (1P06492).
