Offered is a 16-card partial set of N309 American Eagle "U.S. Presidents" non-sports cards issued in 1890. These sublime presidential portraits are notably scarce, even though the images and style were employed in a variety of tobacco insert roles as well as a number of "trade card" incarnations. All but five examples carry the "American Eagle Tobacco Co."-branded back. Includes: George Washington (FR), John Adams, James Madison, John Quincy Adams/Blank Back, Martin Van Buren/Blank Back, John Tyler, James Polk, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan/Blank Back, Abraham Lincoln (trimmed), Andrew Johnson/Blank Back, Ulysses S. Grant, James Garfield, Chester A. Arthur/Blank Back, Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison. Grades 50% VG to VG/EX, 25% GD to GD/VG, 25% lesser.
