It is an image that captured an epic moment in U.S. history – on August 14, 1945 a sailor locked in a passionate kiss with a nurse in New York City's Times Square at the end of World War II. And, after decades of dispute, the couple in the 1945 photograph were revealed to be 89-year-olds George Mendonsa and Greta Zimmer Friedman (deceased). Mendonsa and Friedman both signed their unframed 11 x 14 inch photo in blue marker to the right. Mendonsa’s insignia reads “Times Square V.J. Day 1943 to 1946 U.S.S. The Sullivans, George Mendonsa QM 1/c.” Friedman’s reads “Best wishes Greta.” Comes with a PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity (K69170)
