Offered here is a lot of two footballs signed by Frank Gifford and Chuck Bednarik. These two men were involved in one of the most famous plays in NFL history, a crunching tackle on Gifford that knocked him out of the NFL for a year and a half. This moment was captured in an iconic photograph of Bednarik taunting an immobile Gifford in the immediate aftermath of the hit. Bednarik, the last two-way player in the NFL, saw his number 60 retired by the Eagles after his career ended. Gifford recovered from his injuries and went on to become one of the most beloved broadcasters in the NFL.
Both footballs are signed in silver Sharpie, with Bednarik signing “Charles Philip Bednarik” “HOF ‘67” and Gifford writing “Francis Newton Gifford” “HOF ‘77”. Importantly, finding full signatures for both of these players (both of whom passed away in 2015) on this medium is no easy accomplishment. Both items come with a JSA COA (P01913-Gifford, L24530-Bednarik).
