After long-time second baseman Robinson Cano left the New York Yankees to join the Seattle Mariners following the 2013 season, the second base position became a liability for the Bombers. That changed when the Yankees acquired Starlin Castro from the Chicago Cubs. Castro enjoyed his first season in New York in 2016 with a solid .270 batting average, 21 home runs and knocked in 70 runs and helped to solidify the second base position for the Yankees. Offered is a collection of three items worn by Castro during his 2016 debut season in New York.
The first item is an all-black Marucci KB17.2 model bat. This bat is un-cracked and displays light use. There is white tape on the handle and Castro’s number “14” and bat’s manufactured date “05/02/16” have been stamped on the knob. There is a heavy coat of pine tar between the barrel and the handle and Castro has signed his name in silver marker on the barrel and added the inscription “14”. This bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B10914) for the game use and a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (B08902) for the signature.
The next item in this lot is a pair of Nike MVP cleats. These navy blue and gray trimmed hi-top cleats have metal spikes. These size 10 cleats show excellent use and each one has caked on dirt still adhered to the gray underside and metal spikes. Castro signed his name in silver marker on the edge of the outer toes and inscribed “GU 2016” and “14”. These cleats come with individual COAs from PSA/DNA (AB73562 & AB73563) for his signature and inscriptions and a LOA from JT Sports.
The final item in this lot is a pair Nike MVP Hyperfuse batting gloves. These navy blue gloves with gray trim feature the Nike “swoosh” in silver on the back hand. The palms are all gray with the Velcro strap featuring “MVP” in silver. These gloves display light game use and Castro signed his name in silver marker on the back of the gloves and inscribed “GU 2016” and “14”. These gloves come with individual COAs from PSA/DNA AB73564 & AB73565) and a LOA from JT Sports.
