The 2000 Patriot Award was presented to five athletes who played an important role that their respective pro sports had on the morale of men and women in the service. Brooks Robinson received this award for his service in representing baseball. The other recipients were David Robinson for basketball, Arnold Palmer for golf, Pat LaFontaine for hockey and Gene Fullmer for boxing.
This three-inch diameter gold medal that was presented to Brooks Robinson has “CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HOR SOCIETY” etched across the upper outer edge and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” etched across the bottom outer edge. The center of the medal has the etched image of an eagle with its wings extended holding both an olive branch and arrows with “VALOR” on a band that surrounds the eagle. 13 stars line the inner circle. The back of the medal has engraved “THE PATRIOT AWARD is Presented to BROOKS ROBINSON Professional Baseball Player Accepted on behalf of The Sport of Baseball “…for all that Baseball has done to support service men and women around the world” Pueblo, Colorado September 22, 2000”. This impressive medal comes with a 6 x 6 inch wooden display case with a blue velvet inner lining. This medal also comes with a LOA from Brooks Robinson.
