Offered here is a ticket for the Texas Welcome Dinner honoring President John F. Kennedy. This event never took place, as Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President Kennedy on the morning of November 22, 1963, the event was scheduled to occur. Kennedy, one of the most popular presidents of all time, was traveling through Dallas, Texas in an open topped convertible when he was assassinated.

Kennedy was also a champion for civil rights, appointing Thurgood Marshall to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Kennedy, the youngest president-elect in United States history, was a war hero in World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for his service to the United States. The first and to this date last Roman-Catholic president, Kennedy remains an iconic figure in the United States 43 years after his death.

This yellow ticket was issued to a member of the press and is numbered 1359. The black text reads “Texas Welcome Dinner Honoring President and Mrs. Kennedy and Vice President and Mrs. Johnson.” The dinner was scheduled for 7:30 pm on Friday, November 22, 1963 in the Municipal Auditorium of Austin, Texas.
