Offered here is a ticket for the Texas Welcome Dinner honoring President John F. Kennedy. This event never took place, as Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President Kennedy on the morning of November 22, 1963, the event was scheduled to occur. Kennedy, one of the most popular presidents of all time, was traveling through Dallas, Texas in an open topped convertible when he was assassinated.
In his abbreviated presidency, Kennedy made many decisions that changed the course of United States history. He presided over the Cuban Missile Crisis, averting a nuclear war between the United States and the communist USSR. Kennedy was also a champion for civil rights, appointing Thurgood Marshall to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Kennedy, the youngest president-elect in United States history, was a war hero in World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for his service to the United States. The first and to this date last Roman-Catholic president, Kennedy remains an iconic figure in the United States 43 years after his death.
