Although he came in 2nd for the NL MVP Award in 2002, it was the following season that defined Albert Pujols' career. Fans across the country acknowledged his budding talent by voting him onto the All-Star team with the most votes of any other player. Pujols came out of the All-Star break by running up a 30 game hitting streak, tying Stan Musial and coming in second to Rogers Hornsby 33 game Cardinals record. He hit his 100th career homer in July and finished the season with 43 homers and won the batting crown with a .359 average and led the league in runs and doubles as well.

Pujols' Sam Bat SG1 bat shows moderate use with a repaired handle crack. Several ball marks with stitch impressions are visible along with blue ink transfers and white leather ball scuffs. Cleat imprints can be seen and there is the impression of a weighted batting donut. A light coat of pine tar is evident on its handle and the knob sports Pujols' number "5" hand written in silver pen. The bat was acquired directly from the St. Louis Cardinals community foundation in 2004 and their Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the bat. Letter of Authenticity (1B05852) from PSA/DNA who have graded this early Pujols gamer a GU 9.
