His short presidency did not prevent him from enacting positive change in America, as he introduced the Department of Energy and Department of Education. In his post-presidency, Carter has embraced a myriad of progressive causes and endeavors through his Carter Foundation. In 2016 Carter celebrated his 92nd birthday. He is the only president to survive to the 40th anniversary of his election.
