In 1927, Babe Ruth broke his own MLB record by slugging his 60th home run of the season. This record, which would stand for 34 years, was one of baseball’s most hallowed. Ruth’s record was immortalized in the October 1st, 1927 edition of The San Francisco Chronicle, under the headline “RUTH SMASHES OWN HOME RUN RECORD.” This article is surrounded by features on minor league baseball in the San Francisco area, college football, and boxing. To the right side of this page is a large feature on the opening of duck hunting season. On the opposite page to this is an article about a son of former President John Tyler passing away. This issue is part of a bound book containing all of The Chronicle’s October, 1927 issues. The book is quite large, measuring 17 x 23 inches and almost 3 inches thick. The book is tan and red, with an intricate pattern on the covers and is in good condition.
