In 1948 Babe Ruth, dying of terminal cancer, made his final appearance at Yankee Stadium. Ruth appeared before the June 13, 1948 game against the Cleveland Indians. Ruth gave a tearful speech before the game, dressed in his Yankee pinstripes for the last time. His body ravaged by cancer, Ruth was forced to lean on a baseball bat in order to stand. This bittersweet moment was one of Ruth’s last public appearances, as he would pass away on August 16 of that summer.

This ticket is ripped, most likely at the gate of Yankee Stadium. A hole has been punched in the middle of the ticket. The ticket has been encapsulated by SGC, who have graded it authentic. Along with this ticket is an article about the game and Ruth’s appearance from The Detroit Free-Press. It features the iconic photo of Ruth before the game as well as an inscription of his speech. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
