Ford Frick was one of the most important executives in baseball history. The National League President from 1934 to 1951, Frick helped ease Jackie Robinson’s transition to the Major Leagues. Frick was named Commissioner of Baseball after Happy Chandler was ousted in 1951, serving until his retirement in 1965. Frick is a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This letter, typed on official National League stationary, is Frick’s response to being invited to the Yankee Stadium Silver Anniversary on June 13th, 1948. This event is most famous for being Babe Ruth’s final public appearance at Yankee Stadium before his death from cancer later that summer. Frick respectfully declines the Yankees invitation due to a West Coast trip. He signed the bottom of the letter in blue pen. This letter is in good condition, with some staining around the edges of the ltter. This item comes with a PSA/DNA LOA (AA06090).
