Two of baseball’s greatest ever teammates, Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth were the power hitting engines behind the Yankees famed “Murderers Row” lineup. Teammates from 1923 to 1934, Ruth and Gehrig won three World Series as part of the same lineup. Both men were inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, with Gehrig’s induction occurring in a special ceremony shortly after his forced retirement.

No two players have a greater legacy in baseball than Ruth and Gehrig. Ruth is still widely considered the greatest ballplayer of all-time, and today the Lou Gehrig Award is given out to the MLB player who best personifies Gehrig’s character and integrity. This bronze statue is 9-inches tall and features Gehrig and Ruth standing together, examining Gehrig’s bat. A facsimile of each player’s signature, as well as “1927” is engraved on the pedestal of the statue. Ruth and Gehrig’s statistics from the 1927 season are engraved on the back of the pedestal next to a gold marker indicating that this statue is a limited edition 248 of 1927. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
