Graded VG 3 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among a total of 66 copies recorded in PSA’s census reporting, just ten examples have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. The offered tobacco insert rarity is universally recognized by advanced collectors as being one of Ty Cobb's most beautiful cards. In its design, the great Cobb is revealed in his classic batting pose, set against a brilliant multi-colored background. The T227 "Champions" measure 2-5/16" x 3-3/8", making them relatively large in comparison to their contemporaries. Due to their size – and the fact that they were distributed inside pouches of raw tobacco – the items are typically found in a heavily creased or stained, off-grade state. This example, however, possesses admirable visual appeal. Cobb's image is nicely focused and its hues are wonderfully bright. The card is well-centered and clean; mild to moderate wear is evident at the tips of three corners, and a couple of unobtrusive wrinkles can be seen at the left-edge quadrant. The reverse, which features a detailed biography of the Hall of Famer, is pure and legible, and its "Miners Extra" advertisement is strikingly bold. Very Good condition.
