The Brooklyn Dodgers were one of the longest suffering baseball teams, as it took them over 50 seasons to claim their first World Series title. 1955 was the magical season for Brooklyn, as their team of aging superstars defeated their crosstown rival New York Yankees in a seven game series behind the pitching of World Series MVP Johnny Podres.
This New York Daily News front page features the big, bold headling “THIS IS NEXT YEAR!” a play on the Dodgers informal motto, “Wait ‘til next year”. A large picture of Podres celebrating with his catcher Roy Campanella and third baseman Don Hoak is included below the headline. This newspaper would be an excellent addition to the collection of any fan of “Dem Bums”.
