Presented here is a framed award from the National Medical Association given to tennis legend Arthur Ashe. This award, “The Scroll of Merit”, was given to Ashe “in recognition of his significant accomplishments in tennis and the exemplary manner in which he has utilized the services of black professionals in the management of his health.” This award was given to Ashe in 1980. It bears the signatures of Robert Dawson and Frank Royal, the President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Medical Association. This award is encased in a 10 ½ x 13 ½ inch frame. This item comes with a LOA from University Archives.
