In 1966, Emmett Ashford became the first African-American umpire in Major League Baseball. Ashford used a boisterous umpiring style to call games, becoming one of the most beloved umpires of his time. Not just a flashy personality, Ashford was also an excellent umpire, and was a part of the umpiring crew for all five games of the 1970 World Series. These two cuts are both inscribed “Good Luck” above Ashford’s signature, which he wrote in black pen and have been encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
