Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza wore this collection of catcher’s equipment during the 1997 MLB season, his last year with the Dodgers and arguably his best season as a pro. The Pennsylvania native set new career highs in all three Triple Crown categories, putting up 40 home runs, 124 RBI, and a sky-high .362 batting average. An All-Star and Silver Slugger recipient in 1997, Piazza finished as the runner up to Larry Walker in National League MVP voting.
Included in this collection are a face mask, chest protector, and two shin guards. The face mask is a Rawlings bird cage style mask. It displays moderate use and is missing the head pad. Piazza autographed the detachable mandible pad in black marker. This item comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (4A10605) for the signature.
The chest protector is blue, red, and gray, and has a Rawlings tag sewn on the upper center. The reverse side of the right shoulder features a Velcro pad. Piazza signed the left side of the chest in silver marker. This item, which displays light use, comes with a PSA/DNA STICKER ONLY (4A10597).
Finally, two shin guards are offered. They are blue, red, and gray, and display excellent use. Each display Piazza’s number “31”, which has been applied to the front in white numerals. Piazza signed each shin guard in silver marker. These items come with MLB Authenticated holograms for the signatures (FJ 593988 and FJ 593986). Game use for the entire lot is covered by a LOA from JT Sports.
