Under the legendary Billy Martin, the New York Yankees won 100 games during the 1977 regular season, then beat both the Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the postseason to earn the 21st World Series title in team franchise history. The offense was led by a veritable who’s who of talent, including Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, Graig Nettles, Mickey Rivers and Lou Piniella. Jackson (32 home runs, 110 RBIs) and Nettles (37 homers, 107 RBIs) provided most of the power, but certainly not to be overlooked were the contributions of Munson (.308 average, 100 RBIs), Rivers (.326 average) and Piniella (who hit .330). Ron Guidry led the pitching staff with a record of 16-7 to go along with a 2.82 ERA. Reliever Sparky Lyle won 13 games, saved another 26, and posted a 2.17 ERA.

     Presented here is a Balfour 14K gold 1977 New York Yankees World Series Champions ring that was presented to Stump Merrill. A lifelong baseball man, Merrill spent several decades in the Yankees organization, including serving as manager of the big league club in 1990 and 1991. The ring’s face features the famed “NY” logo, comprised of 19 sparkling round diamonds. Surrounding the perimeter read the words “YANKEES WORLD CHAMPIONS” in relief work. Appearing on the left side of the band is the year 1977 atop the words “PRIDE” and “TRADITION” displayed in banners, which are seen flying above the World Series trophy, which is set in an image of Yankee Stadium. The opposite shank features the name “MERRILL” above a wonderful rendering of the Yankees logo in relief, with the words “21st World Championship” below the logo, using the baseball bat to help form the number 21. The inside of the band is marked LGB 14K. This ring is approximately a size 8 and it weighs an approximate 29.2 grams. Item includes a LOA from Stump Merrill.
