Former Baltimore Orioles closer Lee Smith wore this jersey during the 1994 MLB All-Star Game. Smith, the former all-time leader in saves, was making the sixth of his seven All-Star appearances in the strike-shortened 1994 season. The lanky fireballer pitched the bottom of the ninth inning for the American League at Three Rivers Stadium. Smith allowed a two-run home run to Fred McGriff, allowing the NL to tie the game before winning it in the bottom of the tenth.
This gray button down jersey has “Orioles” sewn across the chest in black and orange tackle twill. Smith’s number “47” is sewn on the chest and back in black and orange tackle twill. “SMITH” is sewn across the back shoulders in black and orange tackle twill over a gray nameplate. A 1994 All-Star Game patch is sewn on the right sleeve above a black Russell Athletic logo. A Russell Athletic size “52” tag has been sewn on the front left tail of the jersey above a “Smith 94-1” tag. “100% Polyester” and “3[inch] Extra Body Length” flags are attached to the Russell tag. Smith signed the “4” digit on the back of the jersey in silver marker, adding the inscription “Game Used” to his signature. This item is accompanied by a LOA from Lee Smith.
