The perfect game is one of baseball’s rarest feats, an exhibition of pitching mastery so infrequent it has happened only 23 times since the beginning of the sport. The first perfect game, thrown by Lee Richmond of the Worcester Ruby Legs, occurred in 1880 – when pitches were thrown underhand from only 45 feet away from the batter. The most recent perfect game belongs to Felix Hernandez, the 2010 American League Cy Young Award winner, who twirled his perfecto on August 15th, 2012. To date, Don Larsen has thrown the only postseason perfect game, shutting down a star-studded Brooklyn Dodgers lineup in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series.

This ball has been signed by 17 of the perfect game hurlers, with Jim Bunning, the former US Senator and Philadelphia Phillie who threw a perfect game on June 21st, 1964, has since passed away and the recent passing of Roy Halladay on November 7th, 2017. Don Larsen signed the sweet spot of this Allan H. Selig Official Major League Baseball. Hall of Famers Sandy Koufax, Randy Johnson, and Bunning have signed this pristine white sphere. Other signatures include David Wells, David Cone, Roy Halladay, Felix Hernandez, Matt Cain, Tom Browning, Kenny Rogers, Mike Witt, Dallas Braden, Dennis Martinez, Len Barker, Philip Humber, and Mark Buehrle. Each pitcher inscribed the date of their perfect game beneath their name. Please note that Hernandez inscribed “8-13-12” as the date of his perfect game, instead of the correct date of “8-15-12”. The signatures were written in blue and black pen. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AC01303).
