Presented here is a check signed by Hall of Fame manager and noted deadball era ballplayer Casey Stengel. Stengel managed the New York Yankees to seven World Series titles between 1949 and 1958. Later, Stengel was coaxed out of retirement to become the first manager in the history of the New York Mets. Beloved for his gruff wit and affable personality, Stengel is one of only two men to have his number retired by both the Yankees and the Mets.
This check was signed on June 21st, 1973, just over two years before Stengel’s death at the age of 85. It is for the value of $65.00. Stengel signed the bottom of the check in blue pen, signing his name as “Charles D. Stengel”. This item is accompanied by a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A81806).
