Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel, the first skipper of the New York Mets, wore this dugout jacket circa 1963-65. Although Stengel’s Mets struggled to win games, the ball club became beloved in New York City for their never-say-die attitude and gruff but friendly manager. Stengel, forced to retire due to an injury in July of 1965, is the only player or manager to have his number retired by the Mets and Yankees, the latter of which he managed to seven World Series titles in 12 seasons.
This snap-front jacket is blue, with two chest pockets and a large, orange, interlocking “NY” logo sewn on the left breast. “37”, “KM Pro”, and size “42” tags are sewn on the inside of this jacket. This item comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema, as well as a Letter of Provenance from Jack Lang of the BWAA.
