The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers have engaged in one of baseball’s most ferocious postseason rivalries, meeting in the World Series a record 11 times. The first seven on these meetings occurred when the teams shared a city, before the Dodgers completed their cross country pilgrimage to Los Angeles from Brooklyn in the late 1950s. The Yankees hold an 8-3 advantage in the World Series against the Dodgers, which includes five consecutive victories from 1941 through 1953. The Dodgers finally defeated the Yankees in 1955, in a thrilling, seven-game World Series that saw Johnny Podres of the Dodgers win the inaugural Babe Ruth Award for World Series MVP. Most recently, the Yankees and Dodgers met in the 1981 World Series, which the Dodgers won in six games.
