Presented here is a baseball signed by 23 members of the 1979 Oakland Athletics. Although this A’s team was a far-cry from the dominant Swingin’ A’s of the early ‘70s, a quick leadoff hitter with a penchant for speaking in the third person debuted for the A’s this season. Rickey Henderson was an instant success, stealing 33 bases in less than 90 games as baseball’s stolen base king flashed the potential that would turn him into a Hall of Famer.
The signature of team manager Jim Marshall graces the sweet spot of this Wilson Official Approved Major League baseball. The signature of the Hall of Famer Henderson, in a rare rookie season appearance, is located on the panel to the north of the sweet spot. Other signatures include Dave Revering, Mitchell Page, Rick Langford, Jim Saul, Lee Stange, Jim Essian, Derek Bryant, Wayne Gross, Mike Norris, Jeff Newman, Steve McCatty, Jim Todd, Rob Picciolo, Mike Edwards, Lee Walls, Dave Heaverlo, Dave Chalk, Mike Heath, and several more. The signatures were written on this ball in black pen. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A81812).
