The Draper and Maynard Company was a pioneer in the field of sporting goods. Quite possibly the first company to manufacture gloves specifically for baseball use during the latter half of the 19th century, D&M outfitted scores of MLB players with their fine leather mitts. It is believed that over 90% of baseball players in the 1910s and 1920s exclusively used D&M mitts. Based in Plymouth, New Hampshire, D&M was endorsed by Babe Ruth and many of the stars of his era. Offered here are a glove and baseball manufactured by Draper and Maynard in their original boxes. The glove, which bears the famous “Lucky Dog” logo used by Draper and Maynard, is a tan catcher’s mitt. The baseball is a wool yarn wrapped “Official League Ball” with red stitches. “JOK 98” is written on the ball in black pen. The ball has several small dents and irregularities, but remains in excellent condition. The ball also comes in its original box.
