Presented here is a program to a fundraiser hosted by Mickey Mantle for his Hodgkin’s disease foundation. Hodgkin’s disease was a constant specter in the Mantle family, taking the lives of both Mantle’s father, Mutt Mantle, and his grandfather. Additionally, Mantle’s son Billy fought off a case of Hodgkin’s disease before his untimely passing in 1994.

     This program, which features a photograph of Mantle surrounded by wide-eyed children, contains testimonials from numerous high-profile New Yorkers. Seven men have signed this program, including National Baseball Hall of Fame members Mantle and Yogi Berra. Other signatures include Moose Skowron, Mel Allen, Hank Bauer, Jerry Coleman and Cardinal Francis Spellman, the sixth Archbishop of New York. The signatures have been written in green and black pen. Numerous signatures have been personalized, with Mantle inscribing “To Marlene & Michael / My Best Wishes” and Cardinal Spellman writing “Marlene and Michael Nadel / with best wishes”. Additionally, Mel Allen added the inscription “Good Luck”. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A81816).
