Offered is 209-card near set (missing #'s 6, 25, 35, 48, 110, 115 and 124 for completion) of R73 Goudey "Indian Gum" non-sports cards issued in 1933. The American Indians of the Wild West were, as viewed through the eyes of 1930's youngsters, mysterious and exotic people. And, even though it may be difficult to understand from today's point of view, they came from a "timely" culture. As perspective, the frontier times were closer to home for Depression Era folks, relatively speaking, than World War II is for Americans of today. As objects of fascination, the Native American personages created excitement on a par with contemporary baseball players, and candy manufacturers treated the Indians accordingly. Four cards have been graded by PSA; #'s 26 (PSA VG-EX 4), 68 Kit Carson (PSA EX 5), 78 Billy-the-Kid (PSA VG-EX 4) and 81 (PSA EX 5). Overall, the set ranges mostly in the VG to EX range.
