No man embodied the promise and adventure of the Old West more prominently than William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. During his long life, Cody did it all – Civil War cavalryman, muleskinner, bison hunter and Indian scout. Most importantly, Cody (1846-1917) was able to harness the excitement of the frontier, package the phenomenon into a traveling show, and display it to eager audiences around the world. His famed "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show" almost single-handedly created the legend of America's West and made a rich man of the humble farm boy from Iowa. The evocative, turn-of-the-century image seen on this scarce postcard (which was likely produced as a "Wild West Show" souvenir) captures all of the subject's frontier magic. The piece concedes unobtrusive evidence of light handling; the reverse features postcard-style printing, and bears no writing.
