Up until he retired at the age of 38, fans and teammates knew Gary Carter as "The Kid". Carter was instrumental in leading the upstart Montreal Expos to the playoffs and was a key contributor to the New York Mets title in 1986. This Hillerich & Bradsby bat dates from the late 1970's when the Hall of Fame backstop really was a "kid" – 1977, 1978 and 1979, his first three break-out seasons in the Majors with the Expos.
This Hillerich & Bradsby P89 model bat shows heavy use and has been cracked on the upper handle/lower barrel. The bat is 35 inches long and weighs 31.3 ounces and has ball marks and cleat marks throughout the barrel. The handle has been taped in a criss-cross pattern to enhance the grip and the knob has been covered black marker. The bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B12644) for the game use.
