Presented here is a commemorative bat from the 1974 National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford, who were good friends during their playing days for the Yankees, were the only two players voted in on the regular ballot. Mantle was a first ballot Hall of Famer, and Ford eased into the Hall on his second try.
Sam Thompson, a hero of 19th century baseball, the umpire Jocko Conlon, and 1928 National League MVP Jim Bottomley were inducted via the Veteran’s Committee. “Cool Papa” Bell of the St. Louis Stars and Pittsburgh Crawfords of the Negro National League was selected by the Negro League Committee.
The signatures or names of these honored men have been engraved in gold on the barrel of this Louisville Slugger bat. “National Baseball Hall of Fame / August 12, 1974 / Limited Edition / 80 of 500” is also etched in gold on the barrel of this dark brown bat. A Hall of Fame logo is also engraved on this barrel. This item is a limited edition 80 of 500.
