Colonel Paul Tibbets selected the aircraft that would be christened Enola Gay, after his mother Enola Gay Tibbets. On August 6, 1945, during the final chapters of World War II, it became the frist aircraft to drop an atomic bomb. The bomb, code-named “Little Boy”, was aimed at the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber had a part in the second bombing as a weather reconnaissance aircraft for the primary target of Kokura, which would result in a secondary target for the city of Nagasaki to be attacked in its place. This 8x10 photo has been autographed by four members of the Enola Gay including: Col. Paul Tibbets (Pilot), Capt. Dutch Van Kirk (Navigator), PFC. Richard Nelson (VHF Radio Operator), and Major Thomas Ferebee (Bombardier). This multi-signed photograph comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AB12723).
