Presented here is a letter typed and signed by Bill Veeck, one of the most inventive and influential baseball minds in the history of the sport. In 1940, when this letter was written, Veeck was an employee of the Chicago Cubs, the team his father was the President of. Later in Veeck’s life he would own the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns, and Chicago White Sox.
This letter, which was typed on official Chicago Cubs stationary, is addressed to a “C.M. Kinsolving, Jr.”. Veeck is replying to Kinsolving, who sent the Cubs 50 cents and asked for several photographs in return. Veeck, always magnanimous, returned the sender’s 50 cents, along with the requested photographs. Veeck signed the bottom of this letter in black pen. This item comes with a COA from JSA (S81054).
